"The weight of change" 20" x 24" India Ink & Acrylic (For Sale) While driving across country recently, I thought a lot about how much energy everything takes, & how do you overcome not knowing on a grand scale. What does it take to really impact life? During this drive I noticed a National Geographic photographer posted a story about the Midwest & central states that discussed so much of how small town America is barely hanging on, & as we move forward with technology less and less physical labor will be around. At the same time this article was being posted so were pics & articles about slave mining in the Congo, saving Antarctica 100 different ways, big cat animal activism, & political unrest. It's a lot to take in & really start to see how it all connects, & the amount of energy each one of us uses is quite incredible. But, how do you take a 13 year old from a feed lot town in Nebraska & expect them to understand what we are doing is harming the ocean, or that their cell phone has some of the most rare metals for technology, or that factory farming beef isn't the way to go if many of us creating the stories don't see how much energy we are using to create awareness in the first place. Some questions come to mind... How much energy & resources does it take to realize a truth through passion, & when does the using of resources outweigh the benefits for the world & you. What I mean is if 100 boats sailing around full of fuel with 250 crew members in Antarctica are all filming it, doing experiments, & watching icebergs fall off is it helping? That's not for me to say, but I have to do this in my own pursuits as well. It's a balance to make things for the better within yourself potentially impacting others without taking to much, & that is our individual weight of change. Enjoy!
