Thank You For about 5 years I have been creating art in public most days of the week, and coffee shops are my favorite place to work. It marries 2 things I love and probably cannot live without at this point, but even more it allows me to be part of the community. Since my first day working in a coffee shop back in Illinois, I have been looking for a unique place that serves good coffee, has a positive feel about it, and wants to bring the community together. After living in Portland for 4 years and making my way around the city, I have found my favorite. Now this is not to say I don’t enjoy other roasters, but overall Sister’s Coffee in the Pearl feels like home. I knew the first day having a cup and meeting Nicki, Clayton, Abbey, Chloe, Lauren and Aaron that they enjoyed their job and wanted to know the customers. It didn’t take long for me to get to know the rest of the staff, Joe (sales), and Jared (operations) while meeting more and more residents of the community. For the first time in a long time I felt a larger connection with the community, and could see how we all can impact each other in a positive manner. The great thing about Sister’s is that all sorts of people use the space for a multitude of reasons. Some people read, others meet to chat, you can find writers and artists working, and of course there will always be the laptop business professionals doing their thing. It just works. One of the great things about Sister’s is even as the staff changes over with new employees like Derek, Joe, Brianne, Erika, McKenzie, and Whitney, it seems to keep this positive balance and sense of community as new residents move to the Pearl. It is a real pleasure to be able to create my art in a great environment while getting to interact with the staff and community including children. It is no surprise to me that after meeting Lesia my best friend, photographer and partner in life that this is her favorite spot as well. We stop by most days of the week and if not, we brew the coffee at home. Thank you for creating great coffee, a phenomenal business, and letting us be a part of a wonderful environment. Sincerely, Sean Kalley
